Mac and Brumby sat in their new home, staring at one another. Webb had left about a half hour ago leaving the two. "So, tell me about you and Harm." "Don't start, Mic." "Start what, Sarah? Can't I be civil and ask a normal question?" Mac sighed. "I'm sorry, but you'll have to let me get used to this, Mic. I still haven't completely forgiven you for what you did to us." "Sarah, I haven't forgiven myself. I lost a wonderful woman. And, I think Harm and I could have been good friends." Mac nearly burst out laughing, but was able to refrain. "Okay, I have something else I want to say before we start this." "Yes?" "I swear that if you attempt to do more than kiss me. EVER!! I will cut off your reason for being a man!" **************** The men in the unmarked white van were laughing their asses off. Webb turned the volume down on the mics. "Save this for posterity, Mac's husband will love it!" "Webb, are you sure these two will be able to act like they're married?" Barry Wilkinson asked. Webb shrugged. "I know Brumby will, he's been in love with Mac since they met. Mac is a great actress, but like she said, he better watch it. You don't want to mess with that Marine." "I'll make sure I remember that," Barry replied. "We need to get this operation in gear. That guy is going to be ready for his next kill soon." "Well, they're going to the Opera House in about 2 hours, then dinner at Blimey's," he said. "There should be good exposure. Besides, he's probably already started to follow them." **************** "So what did you think of the Sydney Dance Company, love?" Mac glared at him. "It was fantastic, Mic. And please, don't call me love." "Sorry," he replied. "Ready for dinner?" She nodded. "I'm starving! I need a nice juicy piece of steak." "Is that right?" Brumby thought a minute. "Well, Blimey's isn't good for that. Why don't we go to Outback Steakhouse?" "Webb has the surveillance teams at Blimey's, Mic. We should really go there," Mac told him. Brumby shrugged. "I cleared it with him already. They should be set. I knew you wouldn't settle for second best when it comes to steak." Mac eyed him incredulously. "Why didn't you two mention this to me?" "Does it matter? The point is, we're both getting a free meal here." "Fine," Mac replied, giving in. "Lets go to Outback." Mic grinned. This was going to work out perfectly. ***************** "Webb, we've been sitting here for a half hour. Where are they?" Webb looked at his watch, then at Barry. "You're right. Let me call their cell." It rang and rang, but neither picked up. "What the hell is going on here?" "You don't think they ran into trouble, do you?" Barry asked. "They couldn't have! The walk from the Opera House is five minutes and we had people posted all over." Barry nodded. "That's true, but the point is, they're missing." "Shit, what am I going to tell Harm?" "He's going to kick your ass if you can't find his wife." "Thanks for the optimism, Barry," Webb said crossly. "Anytime, Boss!" ************** "Mic, this is an abandoned warehouse, not a steakhouse," Mac said. She turned around. "Mic? Where the hell are you? This is not funny, Mic!" "I'm right here, love." Mac was beyond pissed now. "I said, don't call me..." She trailed off. "Mic what are you doing with that gun?" Brumby laughed. "I guess you're not too bright after all, are you Marine? I've been very meticulous with my planning. The other women were just practice... rehearsals for the show." "My God! You killed them all!" "Give her a medal! Yeah, Sarah, I killed them all. And now, it's your turn." |
