Mac held Evelyn close as she waited for the nurse to say she could see Harm. Serena woke up and looked at her Mommy. She sat up. "Mommy, why are you crying?" she asked.

"It's nothing, Rena."

"Mrs. Rabb?" Mac nodded. "You can see your husband. The doctor said to allow your children as well."

"Thank you," she replied. "Evie. Get up, sweetheart, we're going to see Daddy."

Evelyn smiled. "Lets go then!" she said, taking Serena's hand in hers.

Mac wiped away her tears and took Serena's other hand, following the nurse down the hall to Harm's room. The sight she was greeted with was something she did not expect.

He looked like he was already dead, his skin so white. The steady beat of his heart on the monitor proved that he was still alive. Evelyn backed up to the door. "That can't be... be Daddy," she gasped.

"Evie," Mac said. "Come here."

"I can't."

Mac nodded and let Evelyn stay where she was.  She sat down the chair next to Harm's bed, Serena cuddling in her lap.  "Mommy, what's wrong with Daddy?" she asked, looking up at Mac.

Evelyn eyed the two, wondering the exact same thing.  "Daddy is really sick, sweetheart.  The doctors are going to help him get better."

"But..." Serena whispered.  "What if they can't help him?"

Mac took a deep breath.  They needed to know the truth, she couldn't just lie to them.  "We'll lose him."

"Lose him?" Evelyn gasped.  "That means, he'll be gone forever, right Mommy?"

"Yes, Evie. Unfortunately, that's what it means."

Evelyn ran to the bed.  She wasn't tall enough to see him very well.  Sinking to the floor, she began to cry.  "Daddy, don't leave us!  We love you!"

Serena got down from Mac's lap and walked over to her big sister. "Evie, Daddy won't leave us. He tolds me that when that mean lady hurted him.  He pro..." she looked at Mac for help because she couldn't remember the word.

"Promised," Mac said, with small smile.

"Yeah, that."

Evelyn looked up.  "He did?"  Serena nodded and gave Evelyn a hug.  "Thanks, Rena."

***************

The nurses allowed the two girls to sleep on the other bed in the room.  They were gushing over with pity for them.  How horrible for these little ones to lose their father.

Mac stared at her husband as if willing him to wake up.  It had be a day and a half since she brought Harm here and his condition on seemed to have worsen over the hours.  Doctor Phillips said he slipped into a coma overnight.

A knock on the door broke Mac out of her reverie.  "Come in," she said hoarsely, wiping the tears from her eyes.   "Admiral?" she asked.  "How did you know what hospital to come to? Evie didn't tell you."

"No, she didn't," he replied.  "However, this was the closest to the hotel."  He glanced over at the girls.  "How are they holding up?"

"They've been comforting each other," Mac told him, looking at the floor.

Chegwidden stepped closer to Mac.  She was like a daughter to him.  "What about you, Sarah?" Suddenly, Mac burst into tears, and wrapped her arms around him.  "Shh... everything will be all right."

"How? How can everything be all right?" Mac asked between sobs.  "He was poisoned!  He just slipped into a coma... the doctor says he's going to die and there's not that can be done!"

"Mac, there's always something that can be done."  He looked over at Harm.  "Have you talked with the police?"

"Yes, but there isn't much to go on.  No one knows how he could have been poisoned, much less by who."

The Admiral pulled something out of his pocket.  "Webb sent this to me before I left my house."

Mac took it and read it, her eyes widening... Soon grief was replaced with anger.  "Why!?  Why can't they leave us alone!"

She reread it: 'Admiral, if you can get word to Harm and Mac, let them know that Annie Forrester has sent someone after them.  The man in question stole an experimental drug from the FDA and he intends to use it to poison Harm. I don't have to tell you who this man is...'

"The man she sent after us... It's Palmer isn't it?"

"I'm afraid so, Mac."
