Title:Sibling Rivalry
Rating: G
Spoilers: None
Summary: Rena wants to be more like her big sister.

'Dear Journal, one day I'm going to be like my big sister!  Evie is
very smart and very pretty. She has a really cute boyfriend too.  She's
bigger than she used to be.  She doesn't do anything with us "little
ones" anymore.  Whenever I ask her to play a game with me, she says,
'That game's for little kids, Rena!  Grow up!' Why does she tell me
that?  I know it's for little kids, I am one!  Oh well... maybe I'll
never be like her.

"Rena, come inside and finish your homework," Mac shouted to her
daughter.

"Hold on, Mom," she replied, throwing the softball to her dad.  "How
was that?"

Harm smiled. "Perfect, Rena.  You'll be ready for those try outs in no
time.  Now go on inside and get that homework finished."

"Okay."

Mac walked over to her husband.  "I thought we decided not to let them
play until after all homework was finished."

"I know, but I can tell Rena's been depressed this school year.  She's
not able to understand things as quickly as Evie and I think that
finding something she's good at, will coax her out of her shell."

Mac grinned and kissed him on the cheek.  "I knew there was a reason I
loved you."

*************

Serena rushed into the house in excitement.  She saw Nicholas in the
living room watching television. "Where's Mom at?" she asked.

"She's not home yet."

"Dad?"

"Nope. Evie's in her room."

Serena nodded and rushed up to her older sister's room.  "Guess what!"
she cried, opening the door.

"Rena!" Evelyn shouted, glaring at her.  "I'm on an important phone
call, go away!"

"But, I just wanted to tell you something..."

Evelyn told the person on the other end to hold on.  She took Serena by
the arm and pushed her into the hall.  "I don't care right now, Rena,"
she said, slamming the door shut.

Serena stared at the door in shocked silence.  Evelyn never treated her
that way before.  She took a deep breath and headed to her own room.
"Rena!"

"What is it, Trisha?" she replied.

Trisha looked up at her.  "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, what do you want?"

"I need help with my math homework, but Evie won't help me," she said.
"Will you?"

Serena sighed.  Evelyn was getting to be a real... well, bitch.  "I'll
help you as well as I can, Trisha, but I'm not very good at it myself."

Trisha smiled.  "That's okay, Rena!  We can figure it out together!"
she exclaimed taking Serena by the hand.

**************

Harm and Mac arrived home to find Serena playing a bored game with
Christiana, Trisha, and Nicholas.  "Hey, guys," Mac said with a smile.

"Hi, Mommy!" Nicholas exclaimed, rushing to her for a hug.

"Where's Evie?" Harm asked.

Serena looked up at her parents. "Upstairs in her room," she replied
testily.

Christiana nodded.  "She's been in there since we got home.  She yelled
at Serena," the little girl explained.

"Yeah," Trisha said, "and all Rena wanted to do was tell Evie that she
made the softball team."

Harm's eyes shined.  "You did?"

Serena blushed. "I did, Dad."

"Congratulations, honey," Mac replied, bending to give Serena a peck on
the cheek.  "If you'll excuse me, I'm going to check in on our
'baby-sitter'."

*************

Mac knocked on the door and was greeted by a smack in the face.
"Evelyn Rose Rabb, get off that damn phone right now!"

"Uh... um... I gotta go Tom, bye!"  She looked up at her mother.  "I'm
sorry, Mom!  I didn't mean it, I thought..." she trailed off.

"You thought I was Rena."  Evelyn nodded slowly.  "And why would you
need to be smacking your little sister?" she asked, crossing her arms.

"I was on an important phone call."

Mac rolled her eyes. "Give me a better excuse than that!  Your sister
came up here to tell you something.  You know how hard she tries to
learn, but it doesn't come as easy to her.  Well, today she made the
softball team.  It's a big accomplishment for her and she wanted to
share it with her big sister."

Evelyn looked down at the floor.  "I-I didn't realize."

"Of course you didn't!" Mac exclaimed.  "You've been so busy focusing
on yourself that you don't see how much Rena idolizes you!  How much she
loves you."

"I'm sorry, Mom."

Mac hugged her daughter.  "I know you are, but you need to talk to
Rena, not me.  Now, you are grounded for two weeks.  No going out and no talking on the phone.  Is that clear?"

"Yes, Ma'am."

************

Serena sighed for the fifth time.  Math completely eluded her.  She was
lucky she was able to help Trisha with her math homework.  "Ugh!" she
cried, erasing the mistake she made.

"Rena."  She glanced up from her desk to see Evelyn.  She looked back
down.  "I know you're mad at me."

Serena got up and walked over to Evelyn.  "I'm not mad at you, Evie,"
she said, tears falling from her eyes.  "I just wanted to share
something with you.  Do you know how frustrating it is that you you're
so good at everything and I can't do ANYTHING?"

"Rena..."

"Let me finish.  Evie, I want to be pretty, I want to be smart, I want
to be... you."

Evelyn smiled at the compliment.  "That's sweet, Rena, but the only
person you can be is yourself. And, you're a wonderful person!  You do
know that you're better at something than I am, right?"

"I am?" Serena asked.  "What?"

"Sports.  I am so uncoordinated it's not even funny."

"I guess I am pretty good at that," Serena replied in thought.  "I've
got an idea."

"What's that?"

"I'll teach you how to play sports and you can help me with school
work."

Evelyn grinned.  "Sounds like a plan!"  She hugged her little sister.
"I love you, Rena."

"I love you too, Evie."

**************

"Harm?"

"Yeah, Mac?"

"Penny for your thoughts?"

Harm smiled.  "I was just thinking how we didn't have to step in for
our girls to resolve this situation.  It seems like they have everything
under control."

Mac smiled back.  "They're women, not men."

"Hey!"
