"Webb!" "Hello, Meg. Long time no see." Meg nodded. "So what brings you here?" "Are you going to let me in or do I have to stand in the hall?" he asked. "Sorry," Meg replied. "Please come in." Webb entered Meg's apartment to see Loren Singer standing in front of him. "What the hell are you doing here?" "Nice greeting," Loren muttered. She turned to Meg. "I'll leave the two of you alone. I have some things I need to take care of." "Bye, Loren," Meg said. "How in the world did you get to be friends with her?" Webb asked. Meg crossed her arms. "Can it, Webb. What do you want?" "I know all about your involvement with the e-mail sent to Mac," he told her. "I was on my way to the hospital to tell her and Harm, but I thought I'd stop here first." "You want me to tell him, don't you?" Meg said. He nodded. Suddenly, it clicked. "The hospital?" Webb shook his head. "Do you even know how much that family has gone through, Meg? I was the cause of some of it. Harm is just now starting to talk to me again and it's been nine years." "What happened?" "Mac fainted. Too much stress. Gee, I wonder why," he added sarcastically. "You're right, I should be the one to tell him," Meg said. *But, how...* ************* Serena needed someone to talk to. She glanced over at Evelyn, who was sleeping and Aunt Harriet was laying with Christiana, Trisha, and Nicholas in the other room. Quietly getting up, Serena made her way into the kitchen. She found Haley getting a glass of milk. "Hey, Rena." "Hi." "Want some?" Serena nodded. Haley poured her a glass and set it down on the table. She could tell Serena needed someone. "Everything is going to be all right. You know that, don't you, Rena?" Serena took a sip of her milk. "How can you be so sure, Haley?" Haley sat back in her seat and shrugged. "I look at your family and I see how much you've all been through. My parents went through a lot too, but not even a fraction of what you guys did. So trust me when I say everything's going to be all right." "You know what, Haley?" Serena said with a smile. "I believe you!" Haley smiled back at her. "Remember that I'm here for you, whenever you need me." ************** Meg stared at the door to Sarah Mackenzie-Rabb's room. Harm was just through it. God, how was she going to tell him! *Just go in, Meg, quit delaying the inevitable!* She finally knocked on the door. "Come in." When he looked up, he saw the last person he expected to show up. "Meg?" "Hi, Harm... um, we need to talk." He nodded and followed her out into the hall. "What's going on?" "I know about the e-mail that was sent to your wife," she told him. "You do? How?" When Meg didn't answer, he knew why. Harm took a deep breath to calm himself. "You sent it?" Meg wiped away the tears that were falling. "I'm sorry, Harm. If my friend, Loren, didn't mention the idea to me, I wouldn't have even thought about it!" "I thought you were my... Wait, did you just say Loren? As in Loren Singer?" "Yeah," Meg replied. Harm wanted to hit something, throw something. He knew Singer would try to get at him and his family again. He looked at the face of the woman in front of him. "God, Meg, I thought I knew you. I can't believe you let Singer coerce you into something so devious! You, of all people." "I love you," she whispered. "What did you say?" Harm asked. He couldn't believe his ears. Did she say what he thought she said. "I love you, Harm," Meg repeated with more conviction this time. "I've loved you since the day we met. I never said anything because I didn't think your feelings were the same." Harm took another calming breath. "Meg, I do love you, just not in that way. You were like a little sister to me." He grimaced. That was horrible. "I'm sorry, but that's the only way to describe my feelings. I'm in love with Sarah now." "Harm, I know you won't be forgiving me any time soon, but please believe me when I say it's not going to happen again." He smiled sadly at her. "I believe you, Meg, it's Singer I don't trust. Did she ever tell you why she was in jail?" "No," Meg replied, shaking her head. "She kidnapped my daughter." Harm left Meg staring after him in shock. |
