"Meg Austin, you will not believe what I heard!" Meg sighed. She was thoroughly depressed. She could not believe she let Loren convince her to e-mail her best friend's wife just to ruin their marriage. When Harm found out - and knowing him, he would - he was never going speak to her again! Loren grinned from ear to ear. "Harmon Rabb was kicked out of his house!" "What?" "You heard me, Meg! Isn't it great?" she asked. "Mac kicked him out last night. He's staying at a hotel right now. I was talking to a friend of mine who still works at JAG. No one is even speaking to him! Isn't it great?" Meg attempted a smile. "Yeah, great." "What's your problem?" Loren growled. "Last week you couldn't wait to have Rabb in your arms. Now's your chance to get him. Get to the hotel and comfort him!" Meg sighed again. Loren was right. She was in this from the start and she was going to finish it. Who knows, maybe Harm will never find out she did it... **************** Sturgis stepped into Harm's office without knocking. He was beyond pissed. "What the hell is going on?" "Nice to see you too," Harm muttered, not bothering to look up from his paper work. "Harm, I can't believe you cheated on your wife!" Sturgis said. "What were you thinking?" Harm finally looked up. He felt like a heel for lying to his friend, but if they wanted to keep up appearances, he'd have to. "I guess I wasn't." Sturgis just stared at him. "Obviously!" he replied, turning to leave. "Harm." "Yeah?" "You look like shit." Harm leaned back in his chair as soon as Sturgis left. The truth was, he felt like shit. He really missed his wife and children. Harm hadn't slept nor ate in the three days he'd been at the hotel. He jumped at the sound of the phone ringing. "Rabb." "Daddy." "Rena, is something wrong?" "I miss you." "I miss you too, honey." Harm could tell she'd been crying. "I had another dream, Daddy." "Did you remember?" "Yeah... We almost died. Daddy, I don't wanna die." "Oh, Rena. You have a long life to live. You're still a little girl," Harm told her. "But what about you? And what about Mommy?" "We'll be here as long as possible, Rena. I promise." "Can you come home yet?" "Soon, baby." "Okay," she said. "I love you." "I love you too." Harm set the phone into the cradle and laid his head on the desk. *I can't take this anymore. Whoever doing this is going to pay dearly!* ************** Mac was trying to deal with questions from three children and nightmares from two. They hadn't had this many problems since Singer tried to ruin their lives. A light just went on in Mac's head. Singer. Wasn't she paroled a few months ago? Maybe she was in on this. "I wouldn't be surprised one bit!" "Mommy, where's Daddy?" Nicholas asked again. "He'll be back soon, sweetheart, I promise," Mac replied. She glanced over at the phone, wondering if she should take a chance at calling him. "Nicholas, Christy, Trisha!" Evelyn called. "Lets go outside with Rena." The kids yelled in excitement and went out the back door. Mac shot a look of gratefulness at her oldest daughter. "Thanks, Evie." "You're welcome, Mom," she said with a smile. "And don't worry, everything will work out fine." Mac smiled as she picked up the phone. Evelyn was right, as usual. "Rabb." "Hey there, stranger." "Is something wrong? Are the kids all right?" Mac laughed. "Nothing's wrong and they're all fine considering. I just realized something." "What's that?" "We have a friend who was just let out on parole a few months ago, remember?" "Damn it!" Harm cursed. "Singer." |
