Evelyn walked down the hallway towards her locker. It had been a really
long day at school. Not only did she have to endure scorn of the
"popular" group, she was having flashbacks every so often of the past.

People coming after her, guns raised. There's no where for her to run.
Just as the gun is fired, she screams, seeing her father falling to the
ground, clutching his chest.

"Evelyn."

She hears someone calling out to her but she's lost in a world of
despair. Tears rolled down her cheeks. "Please don't leave me, Daddy. I
love you!"

"Evie!"

Evelyn opened her eyes to see her math teacher kneeling over her. "Mrs.
Benson?"

With a cry, she flung her arms around the teacher, holding her tight.
Mrs. Benson rubbed her back whispering soothing words to the distraught
girl. "It's all right, Evie."

"Meg, if you're not too busy, you should come over for dinner soon,"
Harm said, oblivious to what she was feeling.

"I'll try," she lied, standing up.  She had no intention of having
dinner with Harm and his family.  "I have to get going.  It was really
good to see you."

He smiled.  "It was good to see you too, Meg," he replied, opening the
door for her.

"Daddy!" A little voice shouted.  Nicholas ran up to Harm.  "Hi!"

Meg looked at the little boy. He was the spitting image of Harm except
for the brown eyes.  "Hey, Sport!" Harm said, picking him up.  "How are
you?"

"Good! Uncle Sturgis gave us some candy!" Nicholas showed him what was
in his hand.

"Does Uncle Sturgis want to baby-sit you tonight?" Harm asked, glaring
at his friend.  Sugar was the only thing that kept Harm and Mac from
having a quiet evening at home.

Nicholas tilted his head.  "I don't know, should I ask him?"

"No," Harm said, with a laugh. He glanced over at Meg then Mac, who was
heading over to them, their three daughters trailing behind.

"Hi, Sailor."

"Afternoon, Marine."  Harm planted a kiss on his wife's lips. It took
Meg all of her strength not to pull them apart.  "How are my girls?"

"We're fine, Daddy," Christiana replied with a smile.

Trisha nodded. "Pockets full of candy!"

"Rena?"

Meg noticed that the older girl looked decidedly down in the dumps.  *I
know the feeling!*

"Yeah?"  She grinned.  Well, there was still something she could be
happy about.  "We won our first game."

"Congratulations!"

Mac excused herself when her cell phone rang.  "This is Sarah
Mackenzie.  Is she all right?  Of course.  No, I'll be right there.
Thank you."

"Mac?"

"When do you get off?" she asked.

"In ten minutes, why?"

Mac gave each of their children and kiss, then Harm.  "I have to pick
up Evie.  She had an... episode at school and won't go back to class.
I'll see you at home?"

"Yeah," Harm replied as he watched her rush out of the building.

"Daddy, is Evie okay?" Nicholas wanted to know.

"We'll have to wait and see, Sport."

Meg watched the interaction between father and son.  She longed to be
the mother of that little boy and the wife of that man, but she had been
too late.  She lost her chance long ago.

Without another word to Harm, Meg left JAG Headquarters for the last
time.
