Title: Resurfacing Memories Rating: R Spoilers: None Summary: Evie and Rena's memories of the past resurface and someone from Harm's past returns. Harm woke up in the middle of the night to see Serena standing in front of him. "Rena?" "Daddy, I had an awful dream," she whispered in tears. He moved towards the middle of the bed, being careful not wake his wife. "Come here, honey." The young girl carefully climbed onto the bed and snuggled next to him. "Do you want to tell me about it?" She took a deep breath and nodded. "Remember all those people who tried to hurt us when me and Evie were little?" "Yeah," Harm replied quietly. He definitely didn't need to be reminded of that. He knew one day the girls memories would resurface, though. "All of those people came back and they killed you and Mommy. We... we were all alone!" she sobbed into his chest. Harm hugged her as her body shook. "Rena, you know you guys will never be alone, don't you? You have Uncle Bud and Aunt Harriet, and a lot of others who care for you just like me and Mommy do." Serena nodded, but remained in the same position. "Harm?" Mac asked in concern. "What's wrong?" Noticing that she had calmed down some what, Harm explained to Mac what Serena had experienced. "God, no," she whispered. ************ The blonde entered JAG headquarters in search of her friend. She wasn't able to find out where he was stationed, if he was still stationed at JAG. "Can I help you?" someone asked. Meg smiled at the man. "I was wondering of Commander Rabb was still stationed here," she replied. He nodded. "It's Captain Rabb now, actually. He's in court right now." "Will he be out soon?" She didn't think it would be appropriate for her to go in. She hadn't really left on good terms and didn't want him to lose his concentration. "I believe so..." "Meg Austin," she said, extending her hand. "I'm Commander Turner. You could have a seat in his office." He pointed to it. "Thank you, Commander." Sturgis watched the woman head to Harm's office. Her name seemed very familiar to him but he couldn't place it. He looked up as Harm called his name. "Where were you?" "What are you talking about?" Harm laughed. "You were out of it." "I was just thinking." He glared at Harm, daring him to make a comment. "Don't say anything." Harm held up his hands in defense. "I wasn't going to say a word." "Right," Sturgis replied. "So, who's Meg Austin?" "Meg Austin?" Harm asked, glancing up from the file he was looking at. "She was my partner before Mac, why do you ask?" "Because she's waiting for you in your office." Sturgis smiled and left his friend gaping like a fish. ************ Meg looked around at the pictures all over Harm's office. A wife and five children. She never thought for a second that Harm would be willing to settle down with someone, let alone have five children. She was interrupted from her thoughts by the sound of his voice. The sound she missed so much. Meg stood up and looked into his beautiful eyes. "Harm." "Meg, it's good to see you," he said, giving her a small hug. She smiled, hugging him back. "And you too." Meg gestured at the pictures. "I see you've been busy, *Captain*." Harm laughed. "I guess that's one way of putting it. Have a seat." Meg did so. "What have you been up to?" "I've been in California since I left JAG and I was offered a position in a law firm in Annapolis," Meg told him. "That's great!" Meg smiled sadly. "I suppose." "Is something wrong?" "No," she said, shaking her head. "Nothing at all." Meg definitely couldn't tell him her feelings now. She knew she had been stupid the minute she left for California. Meg had come back in hopes that Harm was waiting for her. *How could I have been such an idiot?* ************** Mac led her children into JAG headquarters. All of them except Evelyn got out of school early so Mac decided they should pay Harm a visit. Serena was unusually quiet in the elevator. "Rena?" Serena looked up at Mac. "Yeah?" "You all right, honey?" "I'm fine," she lied, pasting on a fake smile. In truth, she was terrified. Every so often she'd have a flash of those people killing her parents. Mac nodded. As soon as the doors opened, Nicholas and the twins rushed into the main office. "Uncle Sturgis!" they exclaimed. "Well, hello there," Sturgis said, walking over to the bunch. "Hey, Mac." She smiled at her friend. "Hi. How are you?" "Good, thanks." "Where's my husband?" Sturgis pointed to Harm's office. "He's in there with someone at the moment." He looked down at the kids. "I have a jar of candy on my desk. Why don't you help yourselves to some?" They rushed over to his office. "What do you say?" Mac called to them. "Thank you!" the three exclaimed. "Rena, you're welcome to some candy too," he said to the older Rabb child. "No, thank you," Serena replied. Sturgis nodded. "So, have you two thought on what to give the Admiral for his retirement?" Mac groaned. "I forgot! I just can't really believe he's retiring." "Don't you mean you can't believe Harm was chosen to take over?" "That too," she replied with a laugh. |
