Mac sank into the couch, utterly defeated. She had been released from hospital three weeks ago and she was no closer to remembering her life. Their children tried so hard to help her, but they were losing hoping. She could see it each time she shook her head no. And Harm... God, she could only imagine what this was doing to him! *Why?* she screamed in her mind. *Why is this happening to me!* "Please," she cried softly, "Please, God, I want to know my children." *************** Harm was lying awake in bed, staring at the space Mac once occupied. He told her that if she didn't feel comfortable enough, he would sleep in the guest room. Mac laughed and said they could share the bed. Her laugh, the bed... only two things that were the same. He missed everything about her. The way her eyes lit up when she talked about their children, the way she said his name when they were making love. *What an ass, Rabb! Thinking about sex when your wife can't even remember who she is!* Harm kicked off his blankets. He was going to go for a jog, that usually cleared his head. **************** "Rena, don't you think we should call Evie?" Nicholas asked. The Rabb children were sitting in Serena's room discussing the current situation and what they could do to help their mother. "She has some things to do at the Academy today. She'll be home later tonight." He nodded. Nicholas was trying to be strong for his sisters. He knew they needed someone. Sure, they had their father, but even he can't be strong for them all the time. Christiana and Trisha were uncharacteristically quieter than usual. Neither thought Mac would remember anything. No matter what they tried, nothing worked. Maddie was just confused. She didn't understand why her Mommy knew her one day, and the next, have no memory of her. She realized that Hodge man must have had something to do with it. She missed the way her Mommy used to be. "Okay, I'm thinking we should pull out the home videos and baby albums. Something has got to jog her memories!" Serena stated. "Daddy went for a jog this morning," Maddie said. "Would that help Mommy?" Serena smiled and shook her head. "That's not the same thing, Maddie." "Evie knows where all that stuff is, we should have her get everything together later. We can set the den up like a movie theater," Trisha suggested. "Good idea!" Serena replied. "Lets get working!" She watched as her younger siblings ran out into the hall. She wiped the tears from her eyes and followed them. **************** "Penny for your thoughts?" Evelyn looked up at her boyfriend. "If it could buy Mom her memories, then I'd say yes." "Come here," Noah said, taking her into his arms. "From what I know of your Mom, she's a fighter. She's not going to let this beat her. Besides, your Dad won't let her." "I know, but... Damn! I promised myself I wouldn't do this!" she said. Noah kissed away her tears. "What? Cry? Evie, it's all right to cry. Let it out, I'm here." "Thank you, Noah," she told him, kissing him lightly on the lips. He smiled at her. "Anytime. Now, I think we should get going. Your sisters and brother are waiting for us." |
