Mac arrived home to freshen up a bit at the order of her
mother-in-law. Besides, she still had three children that needed her. "Mommy!" Trisha exclaimed, rushing into her arms.

"Hi, Angel," Mac replied, hugging her tightly. "Where are your
sisters?"

"In Evie's room with Grandpa. Are Daddy and Serena feeling okay?" she
asked.

"Daddy should be able to come home in two days, but Serena is still
sick," Mac told her. Her heart broke when Trisha frowned.  "Everything
will be all right, honey, you'll see."

Trisha nodded and pulled her mom up the stairs. Mac smiled at her
girls, but only Frank could tell it didn't reach her eyes. "I'll be
downstairs if you need me, Sarah."

"Thanks, Frank... for everything." When Frank left, Christiana began
asking question after question. Mac had to laugh, she was just too
adorable. "Calm down, sweetheart. I'll tell you everything."

***************

The next morning, Mac woke up to find she had three little ones asleep
in her bed. She smiled, they were so understanding of the lack of
attention. "Mommy," Evelyn said, with a yawn. "Can I go with you to
get Daddy?"

"Sure, Evie. Why don't you go get dressed and see what Grandma's
cooking?" She nodded excitedly and went to her room.

Christiana looked over at Mac, who was putting her shoes on. "Daddy's
coming home today, isn't he?" she asked.

"That's right, Christy," Mac replied with a smile.

"Will that bad lady try to hurt him again?"

Mac sighed. Her children were probably going to be paranoid all their
lives because of these damn people who wanted revenge on her and Harm.

"I don't know," she whispered, "I just don't know."

**************

Evelyn looked around the hospital lobby. She spied the gift shop in
the corner. "Hey, Mom, can we get something for Daddy and Serena?"

"Great idea, Evie," Mac replied with a smile.

The two spent five minutes searching for something to give to Harm and
Serena. Five minutes too long, Mac would come to realize. She turned
around quickly when she heard the sound of gun being cocked.

"Singer!"

"Hello, Colonel. Look who I found." Evelyn stepped out from behind a
display, her eyes wide in fear.

"Leave her out of this, Singer!" Mac cried.

Singer shook her head. "I don't think you're in the position to be
giving orders, Mac. Evie, sit on the floor there like a good girl while
I talk to your mom."

Evelyn looked up at Mac, who nodded. "Singer, why don't you turn
yourself in before things get really out of hand and you add murder to
your list of charges."

"Colonel, your powers of persuasion were never that great to begin
with," Singer sneered, pointing the gun at Mac. "It's time for you to
say good bye to your daughter."

Apparently, Singer wasn't counting on Evelyn being as smart as her
parents. The little girl looked up at Mac, who gave her ascent without
alerting Singer, and stuck her leg out. Singer went flying to the floor
giving Mac the chance to rush her and take away the gun.

Evelyn jumped back, watching the two fight over the gun, which ended up
being knocked across the shop. She gingerly walked over to it and
picked up. "Let my Mom go!" Evelyn shouted.

"Are you really going to shoot me, Evie?" Singer asked, smirking.

Mac got up and stood next to her daughter. "Give me the gun,
sweetheart."

"But... but Mom, she tried to kill you and Daddy!" Evelyn replied with
tears in her eyes.

"I know, but we can't hurt her without becoming just like her. Do you
understand?"

Evelyn nodded slowly, giving the gun to Mac. "I understand."

Epilogue

Christiana and Trisha ran around the house in excitement. They
couldn't contain themselves because Serena was finally coming home. Mac
tried to calm them down, but she was just as excited. The Doctors said
her recovery had been a miracle.

"You guys," Evelyn said. "Don't get so wild, Serena is still going to
need plenty of rest."

Mac smiled. Evelyn always seemed to be the voice of reason. "The car
just pulled up, girls," she called to them. "Wait--" She sighed, the
girls ran right out the door, Evelyn following.

Harm carried a tired, but content Serena in, the girls behind, trying
to talk to them both. "Girls, Serena needs some rest," Harm said. "You
can talk to her in the morning."

"Okay, Daddy," Christiana and Trisha said.

Mac smiled. "Come on, it's bed time for everyone!"

"You too, Mommy?" Christiana wondered.

"Me too," she replied.

The girls nodded and wen with Harm upstairs. He stopped and turned to
see Evelyn standing at the bottom and looking up with a smile on her
face. "Penny for your thoughts, Evie?" he asked.

"I'm just really happy to be here right now. I think my life's
complete."

Harm looked over at Mac. She had unshed tears in her eyes. They were
going to be all right.
