Note: FYI.... Harm's mom is going to be known as Trish and the little girl is Trisha Sturgis had to hold Mac to keep her from rushing to Harm. "Lets get him to the ER STAT!" "No, Sturgis, let me go! He needs me!" Mac cried. "Harm don't leave us, please!" "Mac, calm down, think of your baby. You'll see Harm soon, I promise." She nodded slowly and sat down as they wheeled Harm's gurney into a trauma room. She did not need this! None of them did. "I'm going to lose them both, aren't I?" "What?" Sturgis knelt in front of her. "You can't think like that, Mac. Harm's a fighter and Serena is his daughter. Your daughter!" "Will you call the Admiral? Have him call Trish and Frank?" "I can do that, but please, stay here." With another nod, Sturgis left Mac alone. He found a phone where he could see Mac. Satisfied, he dialed the appropriate numbers. "Hello?" "Hi, Evie. Is AJ around?" Evelyn giggled. "Hi, Uncle Sturgis. Yeah, he's here. Hold on." "What's going on?" Sturgis loved how the Admiral got to the point. Well, Mac hadn't talked to him since they arrived at the hospital, so... "Sir, a whole lot of nothing good." "How's Rena?" "She's in a coma. The doctor's don't know how it happened. They're still running some tests and will probably do a CT scan soon." Sturgis cleared his throat. "Something else happened." "To her?" he asked. "No," Sturgis replied. "To Harm." "That man can never seem to stay out of trouble. What did he do now?" "Sir, Harm didn't do anything." The Admiral was getting impatient. "You going to tell me sometime this century, Sturgis?" He took a breath. "Someone shot him." ************** Mac sat with Serena, trying make sense of everything that was happening around her. Why was it that people felt the need to destroy what they had? She looked over at Serena. God how she wanted her little girl to wake up! "Mac." She turned to see Sturgis in the door. "The doctor wants to talk to you about Harm." Mac nodded and followed him out into the hall. Sturgis thought it best to stay with her. "Mrs. Rabb, I'm Doctor Hardy. I performed the surgery on your husband. We were able to remove the bullet, which was lodge in his abdominal cavity. It nicked an artery which caused some massive bleeding. However, we were able to stop it and he's in recovery." "So, he'll be all right?" she asked hopefully. "As long as infection doesn't set in, he'll be just fine. I've administered pain killers as well as some antibiotics." She smiled. "That's the best news I've heard all day. He's asleep right now, I assume?" "Yes, he is. I understand you wanted to place guards by his door as well as your daughter's," the doctor said. "I do," Mac replied. "I just know that woman who tried to kill them will be back. She's... goal-oriented." *************** Trish looked in on her granddaughter. The little girl still had not shown signs of waking up any time soon. The doctor found a small blood clot in her brain from a fall. He was very surprised that she hadn't bruised or bled. She saw Mac asleep on another bed the nurses brought in for her. Too much stress for a pregnant woman. And Harm... he was still in a considerable amount of pain but he should be discharged by the end of the week. Barring all complications, that is. Evelyn, Christiana and Trisha came in for a visit earlier today. They were so happy to see their parents and little sister. The twins didn't really know what was going on, but they knew it couldn't be good. Especially when Mommy looked so depressed. Mac suddenly cried out her sleep. Trish rushed over to her and took her hand. "Sarah... it's okay, Sarah." "Mom?" "Yes, honey, it's me," Trish replied. Tears formed in her eyes. "I have become the softest Marine in the world." "I really don't believe that, Sarah. You can't be soft, you're strong. If you weren't, this family would have fallen a long time ago." Mac nodded. "Maybe. I just had the most horrible nightmare." Trish waited for her to continue. "Singer, Mic, Palmer, and Annie killed them... all of them. Harm, Evie, Rena, the twins. Right in front of me. I couldn't do anything to stop them!" Trish held in her tears as she listened to her daughter-in-law relieve the nightmare. "Sarah, that was just a dream. Your family is fine. In fact, Harm's been asking for you. Why don't you go see him and I'll sit with Rena." "Okay, but you call me the minute she wakes up!" "I will, sweetheart." Mac smiled and got off the bed. "Thanks, Mom." |
