Mac stared at the note from Singer. Everyone knew that Singer wasn't very easy to get along with, but no one ever would have suspected this! 'Harm and Mac, I took your daughter because I want you to realize that I can do it at any time. Even when you're both within 10 feet from her. I will be watching all of you. What I'm going to do is for you all to decide. If Commander Rabb doesn't want his children or his wife dead, he will come to me. He will divorce his wife and become my husband. Now, I don't think I'm being unreasonable... Remember, I'm goal-oriented. -Loren Singer' "Singer just wait until I get my hands on you," Mac growled. "Mommy, where's Daddy?" Trisha asked. Mac picked her up. "We're going to get him later today, sweetie." Suddenly, there was a loud scream from upstairs. Mac set Trisha down and ran up to Serena and Evelyn's room. "Evie, what's wrong?" "It's Rena, she won't wake up." "What do you mean?" Mac asked in horror. Mac went over to her. "Rena," she said, shaking her slightly. She looked up at Evelyn. "Do you know how this happened?" "No, Mommy," Evelyn replied, near tears. "We said good night to each other last night, she was fine. I told her we were going to see Daddy soon. Besides, she's usually awake before me." Mac nodded. "I think we're going to have bring her to the hospital now. I don't know what else to do. I just pray your Daddy doesn't do anything stupid." ************** Harm sat as patiently as he could in the hospital room. Mac should be there soon to bring him home. He was really anxious to see Serena. There was a knock at the door. Harm expected it to be Mac, but it wasn't. "What are you doing here?" he asked Sturgis. "What a greeting." Harm smiled. "Sorry, I was just expecting Mac, that's all." Sturgis remained quiet. "Oh God, what happened?" "It's Rena. Mac is on the pediatric floor checking her in," he explained. "What? Why?" He asked, getting up from the bed. He was still a little dizzy. Sturgis caught him. "Easy, Harm, you need to be careful. I'll get a wheelchair for you." Harm was about to protest. "Don't start with me or I'll send your wife after you." ***************** Mac had asked the Admiral to stay with the girls. She just couldn't handle anymore of this. At least he had a better chance of keeping an eye on them then she would at the moment. She began to wonder what was taking Sturgis so long to get Harm. He was only two floors above the pediatric ward. The doctor broke Mac out of her reverie. "Mrs. Rabb, would you come with me please?" Mac nodded and followed Doctor Stotler into Serena's room. She nearly burst into tears at the site of the IV in her little girl's arm. "I'm afraid Serena has slipped into a coma." "No..." Mac whispered. She took a deep breath. "How did it happen?" "That's what has us baffled. There was no trauma to the head and so far, the blood tests have revealed no toxins. We have a few more we're running but it will be a while before they're complete." She nodded slowly. "Will she wake up?" "There is a possibility she won't, Mrs. Rabb." |
