"I don't think I will," Mike said, pulling her into the kitchen. "I think--" He was cut off by a fist to his stomach. "She said, 'Let go'." Evelyn turned to face her savior. He was about her age, blonde hair, and the most gorgeous blue eyes she had ever seen. Mike glared at him. "What's your problem, Tom?" Tom stepped in between Evelyn and Mike. "That's not how you treat a girl. Didn't your parent's teach you any manners?" Before Mike could reply, Tom gently led Evelyn away from the crowds and Mike. "Are you okay?" he asked. "Y-yeah, thanks," Evelyn said. "So how'd you end up with that jerk?" Evelyn sighed. "My date ran off to talk with someone and left me with that octopus." "Who would leave a pretty girl like you?" Evelyn blushed. "I mean, um... Who's your date?" She smiled. "Obviously someone who doesn't care what happens to me," Evelyn replied. She looked at her watch. It was twenty after nince. "I guess I should try and find him, though. I need to get home." "I'll help you find him." "Thanks. It's Tony Simpson." Tom's eyes widened. "Him? You don't know about him, do you?" "What do you mean?" she asked. "Tony is bad news. I don't doubt that he's with his friends planning how to..." Tom trailed off. "How to what?" Tom cleared his throat. "Nothing, I'll just take you home...?" "Evie," she replied. "Now what is Tony planning?" "You really want to know?" Evelyn nodded. "I think I have a right if it has something to do with me." "He's probably planning how he's going to take advantage of you." Evelyn stared at Tom in shock. Tony... the boy she had a crush on since grade school. The first boy to ever ask her on a date. "Tom, I'm ready to go home now." |
