Harm held Mac's hand tightly as the nurses prepared her for the birth
of their daughter.  If everything went according to the plan Beth mapped
out for them, both Maddie and her mother would be fine.

Mac looked up at Harm.  He could see the fear and worry in her eyes.
He bend down so he could whisper soothing words in her ear.  "You and
Maddie are going to be just fine," he said, stroking her cheek.

Mac nodded slowly, crying out as another wave of pain shot through her.
"Okay, Sarah, it's time."

Harm tried not to wince as Mac squeezed his hand.  The pain she
inflicted on it, was nothing compared to what she was feeling, even with
the pain killers.

He watched in awe as Beth worked her magic and soon, Maddie arrived.
However, there was a problem.  She wasn't making a sound... even after
they cleared her throat.

Glancing down at his wife, Harm noticed she had passed out.  "Sarah!"

"Jenna, I need some help over here!" Beth exclaimed.

Harm was so confused, he didn't know what was going on.  Mac was
unconscious and bleeding out and Maddie... Maddie wasn't making any
sounds.

"Harm!"  He looked up at the sound of his name.  It had been Beth
calling him.  "We need to get her to the OR."

He nodded.  "What about Maddie?"

"She's breathing, but she'll have to be in an incubator.  Krista will
give you a chance to hold her before she's put in."

"And Sarah?"

"I don't know yet, Harm.  I'll send someone to tell you as soon as I
do, I promise."

Harm said thank you, then bent down to kiss his wife on the lips.  "I
love you, Sarah," he whispered.

"Let's get going," Beth said.

He watched them leave then headed over to Krista.  "Here you are,
Dad."

Harm smiled sadly at the little girl in his arms.   He kissed her
cheek.  "Don't worry, Maddie.  You'll get to know your Mommy, I
promise."

"Aunt Harriet, is something wrong?" Serena asked, looking up from her
homework.

She had just gotten a call from Bud.  He told her everything that
happened at the hospital.  First, she had called Trish and Frank, who
were getting a flight, and now she had to figure out a way to tell the
children.

"Rena, get your sisters and Nicholas in here, please."

"What's going on?" Evelyn asked, the others trailing behind her.  When
Harriet hesitated, she knew it was something bad.  "Oh my God, it's Mom,
isn't it?"

Harriet nodded.  "There were some complications with the birth.  Your
Mom's lost a lot of blood.  Dr. Michels is still working on it.  Maddie
is in an incubator, but she's stable."

"Are they going to be all right?" Rena asked, tears falling freely.

"We don't know yet, honey," Harriet replied, glancing at Haley.  She
felt a tug on her shirt.  It was Nicholas.  She bent down in front of
him.  "Yes?"

Nicholas just wrapped his arms around Harriet.  "I want Mommy!"

"I know, Nicholas.  I know."
