"Daddy," Evelyn said from the back seat of the car. "Why are you both taking me to school and Serena to day care today? Usually it's just you or mommy."

Harm looked into the rearview mirror and smiled at her. "We just wanted to make today a special day for you girls. It's not often that we get to ride together. Sometimes mommy goes in early, sometimes I do. We talked to Uncle AJ and he agreed to let us both bring you girls this morning."

"That's right, Evie," Mac continued. "We're going to take you girls out for dinner tonight. That is, if you're interested."

Evelyn looked over at Serena, who clapped her hands excitedly. "We're innersted!"

"Great! It's a date!" Harm replied.

Five minutes later, Harm was taking them past a wooded area. It was the only way to get to the highway from where they lived. He cleared his throat to get Mac's attention.

He pointed with his head towards the back of the car. Mac turned and her eyes widened. Besides them, there was a pickup truck on the road. Whoever was driving the truck, didn't want them to remain on the road.

"Harm..."

"I know Mac. You have your phone on you?"

"No, it wasn't charged so I left it at home. What about yours?"

Evelyn was confused. She could tell her parents were nervous about something. "Mommy?"

"I'm busy right now, Evie," Mac said, looking on the floor for Harm's phone.

"Where's yours?"

"Shit, it's in my pocket. Mac, I can't get to right now."

He lowered his voice. "They're going to ram us... brace yourself!"

Before the parents could shout a warning out to their children, the pickup slammed in the back of the SUV, causing Harm to lose control...

Mac woke up with a dull ache in her head. She looked out the window to see that they had been pushed into a ditch.

"Harm?" Mac gasped when she saw him. His forehead was bleeding profusely as he lie unconscious on the steering wheel.

"Mommy?" An uncertain voice whispered.

"Evie! Are you and Serena, all right?"

"My wrist hurts and Serena just looks scared."

Evelyn turned to face her little sister. "Rena?"

Serena then began crying. "Mama!"

"Everything will be fine, angel. I need to try and wake up daddy first."

"O-okay," Serena sniffled. "Is Dada hurted?"

"Evie..."

Evelyn unbuckled her seat belt and scooted as close to Serena as possible. "Don't worry, Rena. You know how quick daddy gets better." Serena nodded and wrapped her arms around Evelyn.
