I looked up to see Marina flying to me, her gentle wings flapping in the wind. She gave me a hug, then sat down beside me. "Guardian Anna, will you tell me about Sarah Mackenzie? All the others say you've been her angel for years."

"What do you want to know?" I asked with a smile.

Marina thought for a few minutes. "Well, why is it you made her so sad when she was little?"

I thought back to the day I first saw it happen.....

~*~

I see her as a little girl hiding in her room
She takes another bath and she sprays her momma's perfume
To try to wipe away the scent he left behind
But it haunts her mind.

"You're wondering why I didn't protect my little Sarah from the horrors she faced as a young girl."

The angel nodded. "The answer is simple. I was not allowed to. Yes, we are supposed to protect, but we're also there to guide. If Sarah had not been through what she had, I daresay she would be where she was today."

"She wouldn't have met the man she's going to be with forever, right?" Marina asked.

"That's right."

Anna took Marina's hand. "Come with me." A few minutes later, they were in a quiet apartment. "This is Sarah's place. It's the anniversary of when she left home so she's been thinking a lot lately about what happened then."

~*~

Now she's looking in the mirror at a lovely woman face
No more frightened little girl, like she's gone without a trace
Still she leaves the light burning in the hall
It's hard to sleep at all.
Still she crawls up in her bed acting quiet as a mouse
Deep inside she's listening for a creaking in the house
But no one's left to harm her; she's finally safe and sound
There's a peace she's found.

"Who's she calling?" Marina whispered as Sarah picked up the phone. She knew she couldn't be heard, but it didn't seem right to speak loudly.

"Listen." Marina could now hear both Harm and Mac.

"Harm, it's me. I'm sorry to bother you."

"It's no bother, Mac. Is something wrong?"

Sarah paused. "Um, well no, I just needed to hear your voice, that's all."

"Are you sure?"

She smiled. "Yeah, I'll be fine. Good night, Harm."

"Good night, Sarah."

~*~

Ask her how she knows there's a God up in the heaven
Where did He go in the middle of her shame?
Ask her how she knows there's a God up in the heavens
She said His mercy is bringing her life again.

~*~

Marina watched the exchange, her eyes wide in amazement. "How did he do that?"

"You didn't think I was her only Guardian Angel, do you?" Anna replied with a wink.
